Prayer

As a Church we believe in the reality and power of Prayer.

There are many avenues for prayer through Liberton Kirk.

Prayer Requests

The Prayer Team can be contacted via email: minister@libertonkirk.net with any request and they will prayerfully act on the content. Team members can also meet you somewhere suitable if this is required.

There is also a Prayer Box for any request in the Kirkgate Foyer, the Offering House and at the east door in the Kirk. These boxes are checked regularly and treated confidentially.

Word for Today

The kirkyard is open from 8am to 5pm, (8pm in July and August). There are several stations (stopping points) starting at the Offering House just inside the main gate then tracing round the church building. At each station there is a verse from a Bible passage, with thoughts and a prayer. These change each month. There are many benches around the church building to rest in reflection and prayer.

In July/August the Word for Today takes the form of a Peace Pathway with different Bible verses relating to the peace which Jesus can give us in our lives.

If you are unable to visit in person, you can follow the pathway by clicking here.

Upper Room

On Tuesdays from 9am to 5pm in Kirk House (30 Kirkgate, next to Kirk Centre), there is a safe space for spending time alone with God. At midday there is a time to pray with others in a Northumbrian Community style.

All Welcome.

Sunday Service Prayer

Every Sunday, at the end of the 11am service, members of the prayer team will be available at the prayer station at the east door of the Kirk to speak to and pray with anyone who wishes to do so.

Daily Devotions

The daily devotion page and Facebook page is a semi-guided tool providing support for your prayer time.

These Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday, in the evening… to pray with Him continually through the day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.

These devotions, which we started as a church family in 2015, follow the pattern below, based on the Kirk’s origins in the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions

Morning:
Reading and Meditation on the content and Prayer of response
Midday:
Prayer – mostly for others
Evening:
Verse(s) from the morning reading
Reflection and Prayer at the end of the day

Daily Devotions for October 2025

During 2025 we are looking daily at the theme of  IT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS.  So far we have considered some of the things He did and said and how the Early Church followed His teachings.

We pause at our times of Midday Devotion to pray for others in our church family, our city and our world.

In October we continue to journey with Paul through his letters as we consider the truths behind his words.

Inspired by Ephesians 1:7 and 2:13; provided by Laura Crooke

We are all invited to listen for God’s voice and make our response as we journey together daily in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ in 2025
