Liberton Kirk hosts an art group which has been meeting since 1997. We meet on Monday mornings at 9am until 12 noon in the Recreation Hall in the Kirk Centre between September and the end of June. The Recreation Hall makes an ideal studio. It is well lit, spacious and warm. Members are charged a small termly fee.
We are a mixed ability group and welcome artists of all abilities, including beginners. We are a friendly group of people who enjoy art rather than a class that is taught, although members are very happy to provide advice when requested. As well as developing our own styles, we share ideas and provide support and encouragement to each other. Some of us like to work from still life and some from their own sketches and photographs.
Members must provide their own materials and are free to use any art media such as pastels, watercolour, acrylics etc. Oils are not permitted due to the toxic solvents needed and complex cleaning up procedures.
Occasionally, we arrange visits to galleries and (weather permitting) have outdoor sketching mornings.
From time to time we arrange exhibitions of our work.
Whether you want to join an art group or simply take a look, you will receive a warm welcome from the group members. The best time to see us is to join us for coffee at 10.30am and stay as long as you like.
