Daily Devotions for Thursday 12th August, 2021

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Father God

Reading : PSALM 119 verses 169-176

Meditation : take time and consider what is said here – as your day starts.
An urgent Prayer for Help.
Is there a prayer for help on your lips today?
For yourself? For another?

And then pray in response as your day starts

Pray your own words to the LORD God

O LORD
We ask for help in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Midday
Pray God’s blessing on the Democratic Republic of Congo Bible Society
O LORD, hear our prayers and pour out a blessing we ask on this work

Evening

Reading : read the set verses again from PSALM 119
Reflect on these words again at the end of your day
and Pray in response to this God of ours with confidence

O LORD God, hear our evening prayers
As we thank You for Your help in our lives.
O have mercy we ask
On others
On our Church
On our world
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pause to Pray for Others

On this Tuesday in August…as the nation starts to journey into new guidelines and the world continues to wrestle with new cases and vaccine supplies.. you are invited to pause and continue to pray with others in our city and across the nation…to the LORD our God, our Father God.

You are encouraged to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus – in our community, in our nation and in our world

For family and friends and neighbours

For children and young people known to you

For NHS and Care Home staff across the nation

For our country and our national leaders at this time of decision making

Daily Devotions for Tuesday 10th August, 2021

Upper Room day – time-out with God

Morning

Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Jesus, Saviour and Lord

Reading : PSALM 117

Meditation : take time and consider this very short psalm this morning.
What do the words mean to you at this time?

Take time to Pray in response – including for others known to you in need at this time
The love of God
The faithfulness of God

We can but worship you this day O LORD
We can but ask for those in need or trouble this day O LORD
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Midday
Take time to listen for God to speak with you at this time of day
Ask and seek and knock……and hear
Father God…thank you.

Evening
Reading : read these verses again from PSALM 117
Reflect…. and then Pray as your day closes

God of the psalmist and the God of today,
The God of strong love
The God of eternal faithfulness
My God, our God,
Hear our evening prayers
As we thank you for your help today
As we journey from today to tomorrow
As we name others we care about before you
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Pause to Pray for Others

On this particular Monday in August…as the nation journeys into new guidelines and the world continues to wrestles with new cases and vaccine supplies.. you are invited to pause and continue to pray with others in our city and across the nation…to the LORD our God, our Father God.

You are encouraged to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus – in our community, in our nation and in our world

For family and friends and neighbours

For those working hard to provide vaccine supplies around the world

For NHS and Care Home staff across our nation

For our country and our national leaders at this time of decision making

August Time-Out

As a Church we usually set aside a Tuesday each week and provide a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out in our busy days. This is a safe place, and COVID-19 guidelines are carefully followed.

However – the Upper Room is still on holiday until August 17th

Despite this – it is good to continue to take time-out with God in these August days and weeks.

* To find space to be still in a busy world
** To pause and pray with God – for yourself and for others
* To listen to God – Father Son and Holy Spirit – in these slower days and moments

You are invited to take a meaningful walk…around the Pathway of Peace that has been available during July and August around the Kirk building….starting at the Offering House.
We would invite you to take a walk around the Kirkyard and consider what God is saying to you at this time from the words displayed at various locations from the Bible.
You are invited to use the bench at the top left of the Kirkyard (under the large tree) to pause and pray – to be still with God – to ask, seek, knock, wait and receive.
You are also reminded of the Prayer Wall available on the Kirk website under the Prayer tab – a place you can bring your prayers – and ask for prayer from the Prayer Team if appropriate.

The Daily Devotions have been taking us to the Psalms in July and August – and you may want to pray a psalm each day. This is available on the Kirk website blog and our social media pages on Facebook and Twitter from 7am- and in the church magazine.
And – don’t forget the brief Sunday morning Reflection at 8am…

Above all – make the most of a summer time-out – for body, mind and spirit!

The pattern used by 24-7 Prayer/Lectio365 has been a blessing to many of us….
