Daily Devotions for August 2017

‘The LORD is a warrior;
The LORD is his name.’
Exodus 15 verse 3

As the months move on, so we find ourselves in the season of preparation between Looking INWARD and Looking OUTWARDDuring July and August we are taking the time to consider the book of EXODUS – when God rescued His people from Egypt and prepared them for the Promised Land.

We are encouraged to listen for God’s voice as we continue together in this ‘rhythm of devotion’ during 2017.

The Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday,
in the evening… to pray with Him continually through your day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.
The Church website and Facebook page (even on a handy mobile) provide a fuller daily devotional page. However it all follows the pattern below which the information provided fits into, based on the Kirk’s origins of the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions.

Morning
Reading and Meditation on the content and a Prayer of response

Verse(s) from the morning reading
Reflection and Prayer at the end of the day

A Prayer for the Month

A Prayer for the Month of August

Gracious, loving Father, we bring to you our adoration and praise for the beauty and majesty of your creation, and for your unfailing love for us.
We confess that daily we fail you and are undeserving of the love and forgiveness you freely give, over and over again.
Father, thank you for sending Jesus to save us, to show us how much you love us and to teach us how to live in a way pleasing to you.
As you have led your people from the time of the exodus from Egypt, to the present time, we pray you will continue to lead us in the future, in a way that enables us to follow you wholeheartedly.

We offer this prayer in Jesus’ name.   Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven Hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation But deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory. Now and for ever

Amen
