Daily Devotions for FEBRUARY 2023

Everyone was amazed. “What kind of man is this?” they said.
“Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

Matthew 8 verse 27

During 2022 we were looking daily at the theme of GOOD NEWS as we journeyed with Paul through his letter to the ROMANS.

In 2023, we are looking at TELLING OTHERS THE GOOD NEWS with Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

And pausing at our times of Midday Devotion to pray for others in our church family, our city and our world.

We are all invited to listen for God’s voice and make our response as we journey together in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ in 2023.

These Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday, in the evening… to pray with Him continually through the day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.
The Church website and Facebook page (even on a handy mobile) provide a fuller daily devotional page. However it all follows the pattern below which the information provided fits into, based on the Kirk’s origins of the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions which we started as a church family in 2015.

Morning
Reading and Meditation on the content and Prayer of response
Midday

Evening
Verse(s) from the morning reading
Reflection and Prayer at the end of the day

A Prayer for the Month of FEBRUARY

Dear Lord,
Matthew teaches us that You care intensely about people.
Most notably those who are on the margin of society; the aged, the blind, the infirm, the psychotic, and even those whom we would naturally distrust.
Give us encouragement and grace to follow Your example, that we may show Your Glory in our lives.
Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Evening Prayer with Others

As we step into Lent later this week – with God – together – you may want to revisit today’s Daily Devotions from ROMANS chapter 16 verses 25-27

We PAUSE with the Lord in prayer

We REJOICE in the blessings He has given this day

We ASK for His presence, peace and strength – for ourselves and for others

We YIELD – say Yes – to His Kingdom ways for tomorrow

Pause to Pray for Others

On this last day of the month…as the nation and the world wrestles with the virus and vaccine supplies…and the crisis in Ukraine is a major concern before us in our world … you are invited to pause and continue to pray with others in our city and across the nation…to the LORD our God, our Father God.

You are encouraged to continue to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus – in our community, in our nation and in our world – and for all those in need on our Church Prayer List at this time – and for parts of the world in turmoil at this time

For family and friends and neighbours

For those striving to find peace between Russia and Ukraine

For NHS and Care Home staff across the nation

For our country and world leaders at this time

Daily Devotions for Monday 28th February, 2022

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from God, the Holy Spirit

Reading : ROMANS 16 verses 25-27

Meditation : take time and consider this prayer of praise this Monday morning.
Praise the LORD!
What is your song of praise to God today?

Then Pray with words and songs of praise in response to the LORD our God
Make these verses your own

Praise the LORD!
Sing a new song to the LORD;
praise him in the assembly of his faithful people!
Be glad, Israel, because of your Creator;
rejoice, people of Zion, because of your king!
Praise his name with dancing;
play drums and harps in praise of him.

In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Midday
Pray God’s blessing on student Christian Unions in our land
God of grace and mercy and rich blessing, hear our prayers we ask.

Evening

Reading : read these verses again from ROMANS 16 verses 25-27
– In another version?

Reflect on what you read and then give praise to our God in response

Praise the LORD!

The LORD takes pleasure in his people;
he honours the humble with victory.
Let God’s people rejoice in their triumph
and sing joyfully all night long.

And so to you, O God, we bring our evening words and songs of praise
In Jesus’ name, Amen!
