Bible Verse for the Week and Sunday Morning Reflection

And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

Joel 2 verses 28 and 29

Which promise will you take into today?

And then pray in response
Giving thanks
Asking and seeking

O God of grace-giving-Life
We bow before you
We believe in you
We trust in you
We offer you our songs of praise
This new day
In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Midday
Pray the Prayer for the Month as your own midday prayer

O LORD our God
The God of Hosea and Joel
The God of Amos and Jonah
Journey with us
In the good and the bad times

O Spirit of our God
The God of Hosea and Joel
The God of Amos and Jonah
Forgive us
Restore and Renew us

O Living LORD our God
The God of Hosea and Joel
The God of Amos and Jonah
Have mercy upon us
Teach us Your ways of justice

O LORD our God
The God of Hosea and Joel
The God of Amos and Jonah
Be Patient with us
Use even us

Amen and Amen!

Daily Devotions for Saturday 16th November, 2024

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from God, the Holy Spirit

Reading : JOEL 2 verses 1-17
Meditation : take the time to consider these words and truths this Saturday morning.
Locusts
A warning
Repent!

Which words stay with you as your day starts?
What is God teaching you today?

And then take time to Pray in response to this God
Honestly
Humbly

He heals the broken-hearted
and bandages their wounds.
He has decided the number of the stars
and calls each one by name.
Great and mighty is our Lord;
his wisdom cannot be measured.
He raises the humble,
but crushes the wicked to the ground.

Amen we pray together this new day

Midday
Pray the Lord’s Prayer as your own midday prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Evening
Reading : read the verses again from JOEL 2 verses 1-17
Reflect on the words…. and then Pray in response to what you have read

He spreads clouds over the sky;
he provides rain for the earth
and makes grass grow on the hills.
He gives animals their food
and feeds the young ravens when they call.
His pleasure is not in strong horses,
nor his delight in brave soldiers;
but he takes pleasure in those who honour him,
in those who trust in his constant love

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Daily Devotions for Friday 15th November, 2024

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Jesus

Reading : JOEL chapter 1
Meditation : take time and consider all that is said here
The people mourn
Crops destroyed

What images or words stay with you?
What words encourage and challenge you today?

And then Pray with honest words to this God of ours in response

Happy are those who have the God of Jacob to help them
and who depend on the LORD their God,
the Creator of heaven, earth, and sea,
and all that is in them.
He always keeps his promises;
He judges in favour of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry

And so we ask, Holy Spirit,
Have mercy on those we name before you
Give hope and blessing we ask
Amen – we pray together.

Midday
Pray God’s blessing on those on our Church Prayer List
Father God, hear our prayers and bless them all real good we ask

Humbly

In Jesus’ name, Amen and Amen

Time-Out

As we step into this second week in November 2024….and reflect on God’s walk with us…

At Liberton Kirk we usually set aside a Tuesday each week and provide a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out in our busy days above the Kirkgate Cafe. This is a safe place for you to be.

The Upper Room will be open this Tuesday once more – and you are encouraged to take time-out with God…..to find a quiet place with space at this busy time of year…..7.30am-7.00pm……with opportunities to pray with others at 8am… Midday and 7pm….

* A space for you to be still in your busy needy world
** To pause and pray with God at this time – the God of all comfort, wisdom, mercy and hope.
* To listen to God – Father Son and Holy Spirit – in these times

You are also encouraged to visit the Offering House – beside the gates – 8am-5pm each day – where you can find more information and helpful leaflets and booklets about our faith and our Kirk. There is also a Prayer Request Box situated here for you to leave your own personal requests – our Prayer Team will prayerfully support those you name. Have you walked prayerfully around the Kirk building following the Word for Today from Luke chapter 18 helpful words for this month? As you do…pray for the building, inside and outside… The COVID-19 memorial is now in place, beside the Cairn, and you may want to visit and pause there.

You are also encouraged to use the bench at the top left of the Kirkyard (under the large tree – weather permitting!) to pause and pray – to be still with God – to ask, seek, knock, wait and receive.

The Daily Devotions have been taking us to a daily time of considering God’s Good News with God’s written Word – and you may want to pause to pray with others at the start of each day as we consider the truths behind the words of this part of the Bible. During November our focus is on the books of HOSEA, JOEL, AMOS and JONAH. This is available on the Kirk website blog and our social media pages on Facebook and Twitter from 7am- and in the church magazine.

And – don’t forget the brief Sunday morning Reflection at 8am…….and the Thy Kingdom Come global prayer venture daily reflections on our YouTube channel….from members of our Church Family providing a Sunday reflection over the 11 days period. This year the venture ran 9-19 May. Will you still be praying for 5??

May we each and all experience time-out with the Living and True God – whenever – wherever – as we continue to journey through 2024.
