Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from God, the Holy Spirit

Reading : HEBREWS 13 verses 1-3
Meditation : take time and consider these few verses this morning.
Which phrase or words do you hold onto?
What is God teaching you today?

Pray in response…using the words that stay with you from these verses

Father God
Today I call out to you afresh
Help me to love
In word and action
Even today
…in Jesus’ Name.
Amen.

Pray God’s blessing on the Big Alpha task team
O God…protect and use them each and all we ask.

Evening
Reading : read these few verses again
Reflect on the words, verse by verse, and then Pray in response as the Spirit leads you
Father God, hear my evening prayer
As I remember those in prison.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Meditation : take time to consider these words of instruction and warning.
Which words are you drawn to? what do they teach you?
What is your response to God today?

Then take time to Pray to the One who spoke these words

Lord God,
I read these words,
Teach me what they mean for me this day
And how I should then be living
To please you
Even this day.
Amen I pray.

Pray God’s hand of blessing on the churches in the SEECAT group
O LORD God, hear our prayers and thank you
for this channel of your grace in this part of our city.

Evening
Reading : read these verses again
Reflect ….look again at verses 22-24….. and pray alone with God at the end of your day

Meditation : consider the words spoken here about God as our Father.
What is He saying to you in particular today?
What is your response to Him?

Pray in response – to Father God

O Father God,
Our God,
Thank you for these truths.
Help us to make these words we read
A living reality…today,
With the help of Your Holy Spirit within us
For of ourselves we fail and fall.
Amen we say together.

Midday
Take time to listen for God to speak with you at this time of day
Ask…… seek…… knock……….hear!
Father, thank you.

Evening
Reading : read these verses again from Hebrews 12
Reflect on the words…and on your day…. and Pray in response – to Father God
(Pray your own words at the end of this day
Words of worship and praise – for who God is
Words of confession and trust – for what Father God has done today for you
Words of hope and longing – for what God will do in and through you – even tomorrow)

Meditation : take time to consider this great chapter – and all those mentioned.

Meditation : take time and consider these words as your Easter Sunday starts.

Look again at verses 25-27

Pray in response to this God who has provided Jesus.

To put Your Word into practice

‘so that it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. This life I live now, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave his life for me.’ Galatians 2 verse 20

As the year moves on from Easter towards Pentecost and the season of Looking INWARD together starts, so this month we conclude feeding on HEBREWS and then turn to the letter to the GALATIANS ……and pause in prayer at our times of Midday Devotion for others in our church family, our city and our world.
Please do keep BIG ALPHA on your prayer list as we move together towards this venture in the Autumn!
We are all encouraged to listen for God’s voice as we continue together in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ during 2018.

The Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday, in the evening… to pray with Him continually through your day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.
The Church website and Facebook page (even on a handy mobile) provide a fuller daily devotional page. However it all follows the pattern below which the information provided fits into, based on the Kirk’s origins of the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions.
