Daily Devotions for Tuesday 28th September, 2021

Upper Room day and Gathering for Prayer

Morning

Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Jesus, Saviour and Lord

Reading : 1 PETER 1 verses 3-16

Meditation : As we pause with God this morning…
We consider these words from Peter.
What is God saying to you today from them?

Pray in response to what you have read

Taking time to pause and listen for God’s answer to you

O Lord
Speak to us
Speak to me
By name
And help me hear
What the Spirit is saying in these days
To me
To my family
To my Church
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Midday
Take time to listen for God to speak with you at this time of day
Ask, seek, knock….hear!
Father God…thank you.

Evening
Reading : read the passage again from 1 PETER 1
Reflect on the words…. and then Pray….to the LORD our God

God of Peter, our God,
We bring our evening worship to you
As we thank you for who you are
And your good gifts to us today.
As we lay ourselves and our families before you
As we acknowledge what you are saying to us at this time.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen and Amen.

Pause to Pray for Others

On this last Monday in September…as the nation and the world still wrestles with new cases and vaccine supplies…and other points of crisis and concern… you are invited to pause and continue to pray with others in our city and across the nation…to the LORD our God, our Father God.

You are encouraged to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus – in our community, in our nation and in our world – and for parts of the world in turmoil at this time

For family and friends and neighbours

For children and young people in our world at this time

For NHS and Care Home staff across the nation

For our country and world leaders at this time of decision making

Tuesday Tuesday

As a Church we usually set aside a Tuesday each week and provide a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out in our busy days above the Kirkgate Cafe. This is a safe place, and COVID-19 guidelines are carefully followed.

This Tuesday the Upper Room will be open 7.30am-7.30pm – and perhaps this will be a place for you to visit – for the first time?

* To find space to be still in a busy world
** To pause and pray with God – for yourself and for others
* To listen to God – Father Son and Holy Spirit – in these slower days and moments

There will be opportunities to pause and pray with others – at 8am – 12 noon – 7pm – and John and others will be glad to share these with you.

In the evening we meet as a Church Family for our monthly Gathering for Prayer – on Zoom – when we take time together to give thanks to our God, to wait and listen to Him and to bring our prayers for others and each other – including this month for refugees in our world at this time and the Language Cafe we are currently running.

You are also invited to take a meaningful walk around the Kirk building…….starting at the Offering House….which is open for you to visit.
We would invite you to take a walk around the Kirkyard and consider what God is saying to you at this time from the words displayed at various locations from the Bible.
You are invited to use the bench at the top left of the Kirkyard (under the large tree) to pause and pray – to be still with God – to ask, seek, knock, wait and receive.

You are also reminded of the Prayer Wall available on the Kirk website under the Prayer tab – a place you can bring your prayers – and ask for prayer from the Prayer Team if appropriate.

The Daily Devotions have been taking us to a daily time of pausing with God’s written Word in September – and you may want to pause to pray at the start of each day. This is available on the Kirk website blog and our social media pages on Facebook and Twitter from 7am- and in the church magazine.
And – don’t forget the brief Sunday morning Reflection at 8am…
