Daily Devotions for July 2019

‘The faithful love of the LORD never ends!
His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning.’

Lamentations 3 vs 22-23

During 2019 we are looking at various Bible characters and their relationship with God, and with each other – as well as a couple of Psalms each weekend – pausing in prayer at our times of Midday Devotion for others in our church family, our city and our world at this time of the year.

In May we continue to journey with Isaiah and welcome Jeremiah and Ezekiel alongside our times of prayer and devotion. We are all encouraged to listen for God’s voice and make our response as we start together in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ during 2019.

These Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday, in the evening… to pray with Him continually through the day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.
The Church website and Facebook page (even on a handy mobile) provide a fuller daily devotional page. However it all follows the pattern below which the information provided fits into, based on the Kirk’s origins of the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions which we started as a church family in 2015.

Morning
Reading and Meditation on the content and Prayer of response
Midday
Prayer – mostly for others
Evening
Verse(s) from the morning reading
Reflection and Prayer at the end of the day

A Prayer for the Month of July
O God
Of Isaiah
Jeremiah and Ezekiel
We believe in You
We trust in You
We seek to please You
O Help us
Forgive us
Guide us
Use us
Surprise us
Even in this summer season
As we seek to see
Thy Kingdom Come
In our lives
In Jesus’ name
Amen

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from the Living God

Reading : PSALM 73

Meditation : take time and consider these words this Sunday morning.
An honest psalm from Asaph.
What do the words mean for you today?
What is your response to God’s Word?

And then pause to pray in response – using verses 23-28

O LORD
My light and my salvation
I trust in you!
I sing my praises to you!
I call to you!
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Midday
Pray God’s blessing on the Big Idea churches
O LORD, God of mercy, hear our cry and bless these church families we ask.

Evening
Reading : read these verses again from Psalm 73
Reflect on the words and images and then Pray in response to this God of ours
O LORD, hear our evening prayers we ask
As we cry out to you in praise and trust
As we thank you for the blessings of this day
As we pilgrimage on towards tomorrow
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thy Kingdom Come #thanks

As part of our rhythm of daily and weekly prayer and devotion as a Church, we are revisiting the themes of the recent Thy Kingdom Come prayer venture on a Saturday morning at 9.05am.

We are called today to pause and pray with thanksgiving..
For the blessings He has given in this past week
For the handiwork of His Creation
For those we have shared the week with
For those we will share today with

We are also encouraged today to pause and pray for the Kingdom of God to be evidenced anew in our day. We are invited to pray for up to 5 people – family, friend, neighbour, colleague – to meet with Jesus.
