Daily Devotions for July 2018

‘How I love your law! I think about it all day long.’
Psalm 119 verse 97

As the summer months approach and the season of Looking INWARD together moves toward Looking OUTWARD this Autumn, so we are travelling through the Bible in June, July and August – (yes.. from Genesis to Revelation!) – and pausing in prayer at our times of Midday Devotion for others in our church family, our city and our world. Please do remember to keep BIG ALPHA on your prayer list as we move together towards this venture in the Autumn!
We are all encouraged to listen for God’s voice as we continue together in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ during 2018.
Please also make use of the Pathway of Peace during July and August – this is situated in the Kirk courtyard from 8am-8pm and provides space for time-out with God.
The Upper Room will be closed during July and re-opens August 7th.

A Prayer for the Month of July

LORD our God
Continue
To speak
To us
To teach us
To lead us
Through Your Word
By the Spirit
That we might
Know You better
Follow You closer
Love you more
In Jesus’ name
Amen

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Daily Devotions for Saturday 30th June, 2018

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from God, the Holy Spirit

Reading : 2 SAMUEL chapters 5 and 6
Meditation : consider these events in David’s life
What is God saying to you today from them?
What is your response to Him?

And then Pray in response to Him

O God of these verses,
Hear my morning prayer
And by Your Spirit’s help
Make me a person who stays true to You
And Your Kingdom
Even today.
Amen we pray together this new day.

Midday
Pray God’s blessing on worship leaders in the Church in our city
LORD, hear our prayers we ask and lead them all we ask.

Evening

Reading : read these chapters again
Reflect on the words and the images and then Pray in response
At the end of your day – and as the month closes.
LORD God, our God, hear our prayers at the end of this day
As we lay our lives before you
As we trust you for the days ahead
As we seek Your Kingdom will in our times.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Psalm 14 New International Version (NIV)

1 The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
there is no one who does good.
2 The Lord looks down from heaven
on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God.
3 All have turned away, all have become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.
4 Do all these evildoers know nothing?
They devour my people as though eating bread;
they never call on the Lord.
5 But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
for God is present in the company of the righteous.
6 You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,
but the Lord is their refuge.
7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord restores his people,
let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

Sorry #ThyKingdomCome

In our land and across our world during May believers and followers of Jesus were invited to pause and pray for the Kingdom of God to be experienced and evidenced anew. This was a venture created by God through the Archbishop of Canterbury and others.

As part of our daily devotional rhythm we are re-visiting the 11 posts on our website and social media pages – at 8am on a Saturday morning – on the themes brought to us by the Thy Kingdom Come prayer venture leaders.

Today we are invited to pause in God’s presence – and bring Him our prayers of confession

Please take a few minutes to pray your prayers with honesty this morning.
Confess the words, action, thoughts that are brought to your mind.
Receive God’s forgiveness and cleansing.
Pause and pray for the sins of our city.

O LORD our God
Have mercy we cry out.
Forgive us when we hide behind our walls at Liberton.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
