Rhythm of Prayer and Devotion

As we journey through another week how is your rhythm of prayer and devotion going??
As you move towards Pentecost Sunday what is your expectation?

Many of us have more time now to pause and pray with God – for various reasons.
Some of us have started a prayer journal.
Some of us have been pausing to pray at Midday and in the Evening as part of our Daily Devotion together.

As a Church we have set aside a Tuesday each week and provided a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out. However in these times sadly it is not possible to open and run this space.

But…..our Tuesdays can still be an opportunity for time out…..with God

You are invited to pause at some time in your Tuesday tomorrow and be still with God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

You are encouraged to speak with Him….to listen to Him.…to receive from Him…

You are invited to share in the Midday Prayer and Evening Prayer that will be posted online at 12noon and 9pm. We are also encouraged to pray the Lord’s Prayer with others in our city and across our land at 5pm….focussing on all those affected by the coronavirus.

You are invited to pray with others in our Church family as we journey through this week together…..and to listen for what God is saying to us in these particular days….

And there is the THY KINGDOM COME prayer venture starting this Thursday, when many, many Christians will be asking, seeking and knocking on Heaven’s door with a particular sense of urgency in these days.

It’s a global prayer movement.

We want to see our family and friends meet with Jesus and experience the Kingdom of God in their lives.

We long to see the Church and our world experience afresh the Kingdom of God.

This year the venture runs 21st-31st May.

Each day there will a different theme to help us pray.
There will be videos posted daily from the TKC team on their website, YouTube and social media channels.

As a church, Liberton Kirk has registered to be a part of this.
You can too – at www.thykingdomcome.global

At 12 noon during the venture our Midday Prayer will be focussed on the daily theme.
On the 24th our Prayer Team will be meeting together to pray and chat.
On Tuesday 26th the Midday Upper Room time of prayer together will be available via Zoom and in the evening the Gathering for Prayer will focus on Thy Kingdom Come.

You are encouraged to be a part of this!
Need any more information…. please do contact TKC, Alastair, Susan or John.

A prayer from the TKC morning and evening prayer guide….

Almighty God,
your ascended Son has sent us into the world
to preach the good news of your kingdom:
inspire us with your Spirit
and fill our hearts with the fire of your love,
that all who hear your Word
may be drawn to you,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Daily Devotions for MAY 2020

I thank my God every time I remember you.
In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.

Philippians 1 verses 3 and 4

During 2020 we are looking at standing on the promises of God – as well as dipping into Psalm 119 some weekends – pausing in prayer at our times of Midday Devotion for others in our church family, our city and our world in this particular year.

In May we are considering the theme of PRAYER and the Thy Kingdom Come prayer venture as we approach Pentecost.

We are all encouraged to listen for God’s voice and make our response as we journey together in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ during this year of 2020 and it has been encouraging to see and hear more people join us on this daily pilgrimage of faith.

These Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday, in the evening… to pray with Him continually through the day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.
The Church website and Facebook page (even on a handy mobile) provide a fuller daily devotional page. However it all follows the pattern below which the information provided fits into, based on the Kirk’s origins of the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions which we started as a church family in 2015.

A Prayer for the Month of May

Almighty God, sitting enthroned in the heavens, we praise you because you, our Father, are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. In these days of constant change & uncertainty, thank you that you never change. May we live each day conscious of your love surrounding us and your power strengthening us.

We pray for our fellow believers, those here in Liberton, throughout our nation and all over the world. Let us stand shoulder to shoulder, encouraging one another in faith and upholding one another in prayer. May we carry your light to the people we meet and bring your peace and hope to those living in fear.

Lord Jesus, there will be no end to the increase of your government and peace. We pray that many would be drawn to you in these days, that they would seek and find the security that is only found in you. Let your Kingdom come, your will be done, here on earth as in heaven.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Daily Devotions for June 2019

‘..be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things.’
Matthew 6 verse 33

During 2019 we are looking at various Bible characters and their relationship with God, and with each other – as well as a couple of Psalms most weekends – pausing in prayer at our times of Midday Devotion for others in our church family, our city and our world at this time of the year.

We journey with the Thy Kingdom Come prayer venture and Isaiah the prophet during this month – as well as celebrate PENTECOST!

We are all encouraged to listen for God’s voice and make our response as we start together in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ during 2019.
