Daily Devotions for Saturday December 5th, 2020

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Jesus.

Reading : MATTHEW 24 verses 1-14

Meditation : take time to consider these words this Saturday morning.
Good News preaching in bad times.
What is God saying to you today from His Word about future times?

Pray in response to the God of all tomorrows.
Looking again at verse 14 as you turn to prayer

O LORD
Our God
Mighty and Eternal One,
Receive our praise
Hear our prayers in these days
And keep us on the right path we ask
As you walk with us even this day
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Midday
Pray the Prayer for the Month as your own midday prayer

Father God
You are preparing us for the coming of the new Heaven and the new Earth
The old will disappear
The new will come
Alpha and Omega
Beginning and End
You are our God and we are your children
Amen

Evening

Reading : read this passage again from MATTHEW 24
Reflect prayerfully on the words and images ….. and then Pray in response
Especially for others in need of hearing the Good News at this time

Spirit of the Living God, hear our evening prayers at the end of this day
And be with those we name before you.
Make us ever a people who look forward and upward we call out!
In Jesus’ saving name, Amen.

A Call to Saturday Evening Prayer

As part of the Kirk’s rhythm of prayer and devotion we invite people to pause and pray each day.

We offer a Daily Devotions Bible reading each morning and a focus for midday prayer.

At this time in your Saturday you are invited to pause and pray as the day closes and as you step into Sunday.

You may wish to revisit PSALM 119.143 and consider these words.
You may need to name others before Father God.
You may want to be still with God as you look back on your day.

A Time to Pray with Others

At this time in your Saturday and in these changing times you are invited to pause and pray with others in our city and across the nation…to the LORD our God, our Father God.

You are encouraged to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus

For family and friends and neighbours

For those anxious about Christmas plans

For NHS and Care Home staff in our city

For our country and our national leaders at this time of decision

Thy Kingdom Come #thanks

As part of God’s Church we participated in the global prayer venture of Thy Kingdom Come earlier this year. This ran during the 11 days between Ascension and Pentecost….many weeks and months ago now!

Each Saturday at 12 noon we are continuing to ask and seek and knock on Heaven’s door…..’Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done’…..and to pray for up to 5 people we know to meet with Jesus and to experience God’s Kingdom reign in their lives.

This week we focus on the theme of THANKS as we pause to pray with others.

We are encouraged to take time to bring our words of thanks to the LORD our God

We thank Him for His love and faithfulness.

We thank Him for His good gifts this past week.

We thank Him for Jesus…who came from heaven to earth.

In Jesus’ name….Amen and Amen!

Midday

Pray the Lord’s Prayer as your midday prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread

As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen
