You are encouraged to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus – in our community, in our nation and in our world

Tuesday Time-Out Together

As a Church we usually set aside a Tuesday each week and provide a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out in our busy days above the Kirkgate Cafe. This is a safe place, and COVID-19 guidelines are carefully followed.

This Tuesday the Upper Room will be open 7.30am-7.30pm – and perhaps this will be a place for you to visit – for the first time?

* To find space to be still in a busy world
** To pause and pray with God – for yourself and for others
* To listen to God – Father Son and Holy Spirit – in these slower days and moments

There will be opportunities to pause and pray with others – at 8am – 12 noon – 7pm – and John and others will be glad to share these with you.

In the evening – on Zoom – we come together to pray as a Church Family – 7.30-8.30pm.
This month we come to offer prayers of Thanksgiving – to wait and listen to what God is saying to us as we step into a new season of life and work as a Church – to pray for our world and our parish at this time – and to pray for others and each other.

You are also invited to take a meaningful walk…around the Pathway of Peace that has been available during July and August around the Kirk building….starting at the Offering House.
We would invite you to take a walk around the Kirkyard and consider what God is saying to you at this time from the words displayed at various locations from the Bible. From Wednesday the focus will change to words from PSALM 25.
You are invited to use the bench at the top left of the Kirkyard (under the large tree) to pause and pray – to be still with God – to ask, seek, knock, wait and receive.

You are also reminded of the Prayer Wall available on the Kirk website under the Prayer tab – a place you can bring your prayers – and ask for prayer from the Prayer Team if appropriate.

The Daily Devotions have been taking us to the Psalms in July and August – and you may want to pray a psalm each day. During September we take time each day to PAUSE with God. This is available on the Kirk website blog and our social media pages on Facebook and Twitter from 7am- and in the church magazine.
And – don’t forget the brief Sunday morning Reflection at 8am…

Above all – make the most of a regular time-out – for body, mind and spirit!

Tuesday Time-Out and evening Gathering

As a Church we set aside a Tuesday each week and provide a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out. However in these recent weeks and months sadly it was not possible to open and run this space….BUT IT IS THIS TUESDAY!!

You are invited to….

* A place with space
** For time-out
* Private prayer
** With God

Above the Kirkgate Cafe…..7.30am-7.30pm

Opportunites to pray with others will be possible at 8am…12 noon and 7pm

There are guidelines to follow…..including wearing a face covering.

But…..our Tuesdays – and every day – can still be an opportunity for time out…..with God…..where we are at home or work

You are invited to pause regularly at some time during SEPTEMBER and OCTOBER and be still with God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

You are encouraged to speak with Him….to listen to Him.…to receive from Him…especially at this time as we seek to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church in our times.

The PATHWAY of PEACE around the Kirkyard is now closed but you can still walk around the Kirk and as you walk and think and reflect and pray in these days know that God is still walking with you. You will find that there are prompts to consider from the Bible as you prayerfully walk – the online church magazine has more information.

You are invited to share in the Midday Prayers and Evening Prayers that will be posted online at 12noon and 9pm on various days on the Kirk website and on our social media pages. We are also encouraged to pray with others in our city and across our land at 5pm….focussing on all those affected by the coronavirus…..and during this particular week you are invited to join with others and pray for all those affected afresh by the new coronavirus restrictions.

You are invited to pray with others in our Church family as we journey through 2020 together…..and to listen for what God is saying to us in these particular days.
You are therefore invited to the Church monthly Gathering for Prayer via Zoom…..Tuesday evening at 7.30pm. This month our time together will include a time of focussing on the NHS and local care homes in our community.

Daily Devotions for SEPTEMBER 2019

‘Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.
No-one comes to the Father except through me”.’’ John 14 verse 6

During 2019 we are looking at various Bible characters and their relationship with God, and with others – as well as a couple of Psalms each weekend – pausing in prayer at our times of Midday Devotion for others in our church family, our city and our world at this time of the year.

In September we look at the Person of JESUS – with Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
We are all encouraged to listen for God’s voice and make our response as we journey in our ‘rhythm of prayer and devotion’ during 2019.

These Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday, in the evening… to pray with Him continually through the day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.
The Church website and Facebook page (even on a handy mobile) provide a fuller daily devotional page. However it all follows the pattern below which the information provided fits into, based on the Kirk’s origins of the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions which we started as a church family in 2015.

A Prayer for the Month of September

O God
Who sent Jesus
From heaven to earth
We believe in You
We trust in You
We seek to please You
O Help us
Forgive us
Guide us
Use us
Surprise us
As we seek to see
Thy Kingdom Come afresh
In our families
In our land
In your Church
This month
In Jesus’ name
Amen

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen
