Daily Devotions for Tuesday 5th January, 2021

Upper Room day – time out with God

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Father God

Reading : GENESIS 12 verses 1-9

Meditation : consider all that is said here… at the start of your day.
What words stay with you? What is God saying to you from His Word?
Is there somewhere you go to take time-out with God?

And then Pray in response to what you have read
Taking time to wait before God

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
I have read these words
And now I pray for you to work them out
as a living reality in my life – even today
as I thank you that you are with me
on my journey through life.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Midday
Take time to listen for God to speak with you at this time of day
…..and respond to His voice….
Father God…thank you.

Evening
Reading : read the verses again from GENESIS 12
Reflect prayerfully on these words…. And then pray as your day closes

LORD God, our great God,
Thank you for being there with me
For all of today
I thank You,
Even for those things that have caused me fear and concern.
Help me to rest in Your unfailing love and on Your faithful Word
As I wait for tomorrow.
As I look around at this world
In these days.
Have mercy O Lord!
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thy Kingdom Come #adore

As part of God’s Church we have participated in the global prayer venture of Thy Kingdom Come each year. This runs during the 11 days between Ascension and Pentecost….many months ago now!

Each Saturday at 12 noon we are continuing to ask and seek and knock on Heaven’s door…..’Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done’…..and to pray for up to 5 people we know to meet with Jesus and to experience God’s Kingdom reign in their lives.

This week we focus on the theme of ADORE as we pause to pray with others.

We are encouraged to take time to bring our words or adoration to the LORD our God on this first Saturday of a new year

Give Him your sacrifice of praise!

O worship the King, all glorious above!

O come let us adore Him – Christ the Lord!

Daily Devotions for JANUARY 2021

Call to me and I will answer you,
and will tell you great and hidden things
that you have not known.

Jeremiah 33 verse 3

During 2020 we were looking at standing on the promises of God in the Bible – as well as dipping into the Psalms some weekends – pausing in prayer at our times of Midday Devotion for others in our church family, our city and our world at this time of the year.

In 2021 we will be looking daily into our Bibles and the theme of PRAYER.

In January we therefore start by considering THE GOD WE PRAY TO.

We are all encouraged to listen for God’s voice and make our response as we journey together in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ during this new year of 2021.

These Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday, in the evening… to pray with Him continually through the day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.
The Church website and Facebook page (even on a handy mobile) provide a fuller daily devotional page. However it all follows the pattern below which the information provided fits into, based on the Kirk’s origins of the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions which we started as a church family in 2015.

Morning
Reading and Meditation on the content and Prayer of response
Midday
Prayer – mostly for others
Evening
Verse(s) from the morning reading
Reflection and Prayer at the end of the day

A Prayer for the Month of January

Thank you, our Lord and God most high,
for your constant love every morning and your faithfulness each night,
for all you have done that rejoices our hearts:
you have taught us your wisdom, you have blessed us in our worship,
you have given us happiness, you have kept us safe,
you have strengthened us through the passing years.
Lord, we trust in your mercy and protection:
thank you, Lord. Amen

(based on the words of Psalm 92)

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen
