Kirkgate Cafe and B Y O C and Macmillan’s

Macmillan Coffee Morning, Wednesday 23rd September.

‘Don’t just sit there, do something!’ ‘Don’t just do something, sit there!’ (From John’s sermon on 23rd August.)

Now’s your opportunity to do both at the same time, and all in the good cause of supporting the Macmillan Coffee Morning. The BYOC and Kirkgate Café teams invite you to join them in (physically distanced) person at the café or online on Zoom in support of Macmillan Cancer Support on Wednesday 23rd September. All we ask is that you make a donation to Macmillan. To help you, there’s a direct weblink below to their ‘donate’ page.

During the pandemic, charities that people count on in the difficult times of life are finding their income falling, and they need our help. Many of us will know families that have benefitted from the support and care that Macmillan nurses have brought in the darkest of hours. Cancer hasn’t stopped during the pandemic and neither has Macmillan. We can help them continue that vital support.

During the BYOC Zoom sessions, there will be a special greeting from the Moderator of the General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Dr. Martin Fair, recorded at our invitation.

Kirkgate Café:
Open from 9am to 2pm
Take away facilities and outside seating available….and donations can also be handed in here on the day.

Zoom BYOC (bring Your Own Cuppa):
Morning: From 10.30am to 12 noon hosted by Alastair and Barbara Cameron

Afternoon: From 2pm to 3.30pm hosted by Jane and Jared Hay

Gary Ross will circulate the usual Zoom links, and please share them with people you know who may be interested in supporting Macmillan. Come when you can and leave when you wish.

Call to Midday Prayer

You are invited to pause and pray with others at this time in your day

You are encouraged to give thanks with others in the Big Idea group of churches for the Drive-In Service last evening!

You are invited to pray for the leaders of Big Idea as they plan a way forward in the coming weeks and months

UPPER ROOM Tuesday

As a Church we set aside a Tuesday each week and provided a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out. However in these times sadly it was not possible to open and run this space….BUT IT IS NOW!!

You are invited to….

* A place with space
** For time-out
* Private prayer
** With God

Above the Kirkgate Cafe…..7.30am-7.30pm

Opportunites to pray with others will be possible at 8am…12 noon and 7pm

There are guidelines to follow…..including wearing a face covering.

But…..our Tuesdays – and every day – can still be an opportunity for time out…..with God…..where we are at home or work

You are invited to pause regularly at some time during SEPTEMBER and be still with God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

You are encouraged to speak with Him….to listen to Him.…to receive from Him…especially at this time as we seek to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church in our times.

The PATHWAY of PEACE around the Kirkyard is now closed but you can still walk around the Kirk and as you walk and think and reflect and pray in these days know that God is still walking with you.

You are invited to share in the Midday Prayers and Evening Prayers that will be posted online at 12noon and 9pm on various days on the Kirk website and on our social media pages. We are also encouraged to pray with others in our city and across our land at 5pm….focussing on all those affected by the coronavirus…..and during this particular week you are invited to join the Big Idea group of churches as they plan and prepare for the Drive-In event at Morrisons.

You are invited to pray with others in our Church family as we journey through September 2020 together…..and to listen for what God is saying to us in these particular days.

Daily Devotions for Monday 7th September, 2020

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from the LORD God, the Eternal One

Reading : JOSHUA chapter 3

Meditation : take time to consider these words about
the People of Israel crossing the River Jordan.
Which words or images stay with you?
What is God teaching or reminding you today from these events?

Then take time to Pray in response
Including for those known to you at this time making a life journey

LORD God,
The God of Jordan river-crossings,
Have mercy on us and those we name before you we ask.
O lead us
Help us
Even today
To take a step forward by faith.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Midday
Pray God’s blessing on the land and people of South Sudan
O LORD, hear our prayers at this time of day and have mercy we ask.

Evening
Reading : read the verses again from JOSHUA 3
Reflect on their meaning for you at this time and pray in response…to this God

O Living and True God, our heavenly Father, hear our evening prayers
And forgive us our sins where we have not followed you this day
As we forgive those who sinned against us even today.
O pour out a blessing on those we name before you
As we step into tomorrow.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
