Daily Devotions for Sunday 2nd August, 2020

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from God, the Holy Spirit, on this Sunday

Reading : PSALM 101 verse 1

Meditation : take time to consider this one verse this morning.
A song to the LORD.
What are the words in your song this morning to God?
What is the tone of your song?

Pray in response to what you have read and considered

In Jesus’ name
Today this is my prayer, this is my song.
Amen.

Midday
Pray the Lord’s Prayer as your own midday prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Evening
Reading : read PSALM 101 verse 1 again as your day ends

Reflect on the truths beyond the words and then Pray to this God …our God
Including for others known to you struggling to sing out at this time

O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, hear our evening prayers
As we praise You for who You are
As we return our thanks to you for the blessings of this day.
As we name others in need before You.
LORD, have mercy and hear our prayer.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Call to Saturday Evening Prayer

I will sing of your love and justice, Lord.
I will praise you with songs.
I will be careful to live a blameless life—
when will you come to help me?
I will lead a life of integrity
in my own home.
I will refuse to look at
anything vile and vulgar.
I hate all who deal crookedly;
I will have nothing to do with them.
I will reject perverse ideas
and stay away from every evil.
I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbours.
I will not endure conceit and pride.

I will search for faithful people
to be my companions.
Only those who are above reproach
will be allowed to serve me.
I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house,
and liars will not stay in my presence.
My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked
and free the city of the Lord from their grip

We say Amen – as we journey into Sunday together.

Words from this morning’s Daily Devotions – Psalm 101

Thy Kingdom Come #celebrate

As a Church we took part in the global prayer venture of Thy Kingdom Come earlier this year.
This ran during the 11 days between Ascension and Pentecost.

Each Saturday at 12 noon we are continuing to ask and seek and knock on Heaven’s door…..’Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done’…..and to pray for up to 5 people we know to meet with Jesus and to experience God’s Kingdom reign in their lives.

This week we focus on the theme of CELEBRATE as we pause to pray in praise with others.
We are invited to spend time giving praise and celebration to the LORD our God.

Come on and celebrate!

Psalm 149
Praise the Lord!

Sing to the Lord a new song.
Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful.

O Israel, rejoice in your Maker.
O people of Jerusalem, exult in your King.
Praise his name with dancing,
accompanied by tambourine and harp.
For the Lord delights in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.
Let the faithful rejoice that he honours them.
Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds.

Let the praises of God be in their mouths,
and a sharp sword in their hands—
to execute vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,
to bind their kings with shackles
and their leaders with iron chains,
to execute the judgment written against them.
This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones.

Praise the Lord!

Amen!

Rhythm of Time Out in September

As a Church we set aside a Tuesday each week and provided a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out. However in these times sadly it is not possible to open and run this space….for now….but hopefully later this month!

But…..our Tuesdays – and every day – can still be an opportunity for time out…..with God…..where we are at home or work

You are invited to pause regularly at some time during SEPTEMBER and be still with God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

You are encouraged to speak with Him….to listen to Him.…to receive from Him…especially at this time as we seek to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church in our times.

The PATHWAY of PEACE around the Kirkyard is now closed but you can still walk around the Kirk and as you walk and think and reflect and pray in these days God is still walking with you.

You are invited to share in the Midday Prayers and Evening Prayers that will be posted online at 12noon and 9pm on various days on the Kirk website and on our social media pages. We are also encouraged to pray with others in our city and across our land at 5pm….focussing on all those affected by the coronavirus…..and during this particular week you are invited to join the Big Idea group of churches as they plan and prepare for the Drive-In event at Morrisons.

You are invited to pray with others in our Church family as we journey through this first week of September 2020 together…..and to listen for what God is saying to us in these particular days.

Daily Devotions for Saturday 1st August, 2020

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Jesus.

Reading : PSALM 101

Meditation : take time to consider these words this Saturday morning.
A king’s promise.
What is God saying to you today from His Word about Himself?

Pray in response to the God of Psalm 101
Looking again at verses 3-5 as you turn to prayer

O LORD
Our God
Mighty and Holy One,
Receive our praise
Hear our prayers
And keep us on the right path we ask
As you walk with us this day
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Midday

Pray the Prayer for the Month as your midday prayer

As we consider being “fearfully and wonderfully made” in Your image God, we think of what makes us special. Our five physical senses which enable us to experience joy, pleasure, and wonderment, at your creation Also, we, like you, have knowledge, understanding and wisdom.
Most of all our heavenly father you have imbued us with love, that deep sense of care and empathy which raises us above your creation.
We receive your love to dispense your love, may we continue to do so in Jesus name. Amen

Evening
Reading : read this PSALM again as your day closes

Reflect prayerfully on the words and images ….. and then Pray in response
Especially for others in need of receiving forgiveness at this time

Spirit of the Living God, hear our evening prayers at the end of this day
And be with those we name before you.
In Jesus’ saving name, Amen.
