National Day of Reflection and Time-Out Tuesday

As we journey with others in our nation at this time, we are encouraged to pause on Tuesday and reflect.
We are invited to take time out….to share in a minute of silence at Midday and to light a candle in the evening on our front doorstep as we mark the anniversary of the UK’s first Covid lockdown.

Our Midday Prayers tomorrow will include this. There is also the Pause to Pray with Others at 6pm. You may wish to light a candle at 8pm on Tuesday evening.

As a Church we usually set aside a Tuesday each week and provide a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out in these busier days. In these weeks and months of lockdown 2021 it is not possible once again to open and run this space….for the moment anyhow!

You are invited however to make time to pause and take time out…at this time of the year in this season of Lent…perhaps for the first time….. and it doesn’t have to be just on a Tuesday!

However, this Tuesday instead of visiting the Upper Room you are encouraged to Reflect…..and tarry a while with God, maybe a bit longer than usual……to wait…ask…seek…receive….

* Find a space to be still in a busy world
** For a regular time-out during this month
* Private prayer for yourself and for others
** Listening to God – Father Son and Holy Spirit

You are invited to share in the Midday Prayers and Evening Prayers that will be posted online at 12noon and 9pm on various days on the Kirk website and on our social media pages. We are also encouraged to pray with others in our city and across our land at 6pm….focussing on all those affected by the coronavirus…..and during these particular weeks you are invited to join with others and pray for all those affected afresh by the new coronavirus restrictions.

We are all invited to pray with others in our Church family as we journey through these days of Lent in 2021 together…..and to listen for what God is saying to us in these changing and uncertain days. You are encouraged to take some exercise by the Government..and we would invite you to take a walk around the Kirkyard and consider the Word for Today words and images on the theme WHY GOOD FRIDAY at this time.

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from the Living God

Reading : HEBREWS 10 verses 19-25

Meditation : take time and consider these words this Sunday morning.
What words stay with you?
What encourages and challenges you today?

And then pray in response to the LORD our God who sent Jesus
Use verses 22-24 as you turn to pray in praise this Easter morning!

O LORD our God,
Thine be the glory!
Hallelujah what a Saviour!
In Christ alone we stand before you this day!
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Midday
Pray the words of the Lord’s Prayer as your own midday prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Evening
Reading : read these verses again from HEBREWS 10
Reflect on all that is said here in this passage and then Pray in response to this God of ours

O LORD,
hear our evening prayers we ask
As we thank you for what we read
As we look back over our Easter Sunday
As we look ahead to tomorrow
As we name before you those we are concerned about.
In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Daily Devotions for Saturday April 11th, 2020

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from God, the Holy Spirit

Reading : HEBREWS 10 verses 1-18

Meditation : take time to consider these verses this morning.
Christ’s sacrifice once for all
What do they mean for you?

Midday
Pray the Prayer for the Month as your midday prayer

Father,
As we reflect on the promises and prophecies in your Word,
we pray that you will give us wisdom and understanding
to see the relevance of these and apply them in our times.
Thank you that all these promises and prophesies are fulfilled in Christ Jesus,
our High Priest, who ever intercedes for us.
Amen.

Evening
Reading : read this passage again from Hebrews 10
Reflect on this God, your God, our God…. and then Praise Him in your evening Prayer

LORD God, our God, receive our praise
For who You are!
For all you have done for us!
And as we give it all back to you
May you continue to reach and save people
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done across our world
In these days
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
