For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
Romans 1 verse 16

And 2022 has begun!
As a Church we usually set aside a Tuesday each week and provide a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out in our busy days above the Kirkgate Cafe. This is a safe place, and COVID-19 guidelines are carefully followed.
Please do remember to take a lateral flow test before you come out…..face coverings and 2m social distancing please.
As we journey into this New Year, the Upper Room will be open this Tuesday 7.30am-7.30pm – and perhaps this will be a place for you to visit – for the first time?
* To find space to be still in a busy world
** To pause and pray with God – for yourself and for others at this significant time of the year
* To listen to God – Father Son and Holy Spirit – in these slower days and moments
There will be opportunities to pause and pray with others – at 8am – 12 noon – 7pm – and John and those who gather will be glad to share these with you.
You are invited to use the bench at the top left of the Kirkyard (under the large tree – weather permitting) to pause and pray – to be still with God – to ask, seek, knock, wait and receive.
You are also reminded of the Prayer Wall available on the Kirk website under the Prayer tab – a place you can bring your prayers – and ask for prayer from the Prayer Team if appropriate. At this time of new coronavirus cases you may want to add your own prayer for our world at this time.
The Daily Devotions are taking us to a daily time of considering God’s Good News with God’s written Word in the book of ROMANS – and you may want to pause to pray with others at the start of each day. This is available on the Kirk website blog and our social media pages on Facebook and Twitter from 7am- and in the church magazine.
And – don’t forget the brief Sunday morning Reflection at 8am…
May we each and all experience time-out with the Living and True God – whenever – wherever – as we step into 2022.
Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from the LORD God, the Eternal One
Reading : ROMANS chapter 3
Meditation : as we pause with God, we take time to consider these words as the day starts.
What is God saying to you today from His written Word?
What is your response?
Then take time to Pray in response
O LORD God,
Thank you
For Amazing grace
That saved a wretch like me
For loving the world so much
That you gave Your only Son
For Good News
For all
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Midday
Pray God’s blessing on our City Council in 2022
O LORD, hear our prayers at this time of day and give wisdom and justice we ask.
Evening
Reading : read the verses again from ROMANS chapter 3 – in another version?
Reflect on their meaning for you and pray in response…
to this God we believe and trust in
O Living and True God, our heavenly Father, hear our evening prayers
As we pause to worship You for who You are
O forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sinned against us even today.
We ask
Pour out a blessing on those we name before You
Send saving grace to every corner of our world
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from God, the Holy Spirit, on this Sunday
Reading : ROMANS chapter 2
Meditation : take time to pause with the Living God on this first Sunday morning of the new year and consider these words from the Bible.
What words/truths stay with you?
Pray in response to what you have read and considered
For others on your prayer list as well as yourself
In Jesus’ name
Today this is my morning prayer
Amen.
Midday
Pray the Lord’s Prayer as your midday prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen
Evening
Reading : read ROMANS chapter 2 again as your day ends
Reflect on the truths beyond the words and then Pray to this God …our God
O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, hear our evening prayers
As we praise You for who You are
As we return our thanks to you for the blessings of this day.
As we name others in need before You.
Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

In Jesus’ name
Amen and Amen!

Evening
Reading : read ROMANS chapter 1 again – in another version?
Reflect on this God, your God, our God…. and then Call on Him in your evening Prayer
LORD God, our God, receive our praise
For who You are
For your blessings given even today
And as we give it all back to you
May you continue to reach and save people
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done across our world
In our community, in our city.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
From Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus and an apostle chosen and called by God to preach his Good News.
Romans 1 verse 1
During 2022 we will be looking daily at the theme of GOOD NEWS as we journey with Paul through his letter to the ROMANS – and pausing at our times of Midday Devotion to pray for others in our church family, our city and our world.
We will also focus on ISAIAH in the Summer weeks and make time for Lent, Easter, Thy Kingdom Come, Advent and Christmas 2022!
It is all about JESUS in 2022!
So take time…make time…and chew over God’s written Word with Him as we consider God’s Good News with Paul and the Romans. We are all encouraged to listen for God’s voice and make our response as we journey together in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ through this coming year.
These Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday, in the evening… to pray with Him continually through the day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.
The Church website and Facebook page (even on a handy mobile) provide a fuller daily devotional page. However it all follows the pattern below which the information provided fits into, based on the Kirk’s origins of the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions which we started as a church family in 2015.
