Call to Tuesday Midday Prayer

What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord,
who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
When they walk through the Valley of Weeping,
it will become a place of refreshing springs.
The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings.
They will continue to grow stronger,
and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem.

O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, hear my prayer.
Listen, O God of Jacob.

Together we say Amen.

Words from Monday’s Daily Devotional – Psalm 84

Upper Room day – time out with God

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Jesus, Saviour and Lord

Reading : PSALM 91 verses 1-6

Meditation : take time and consider this passage this morning.
‘I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
My God in whom I trust”.’
Is this your story of faith?

Pray in response to what you have read
Taking time to pause in God’s presence

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Midday
Take time to listen for God to speak with you at this time of day
Ask, seek, knock….hear!
Father God…thank you.

Evening
Reading : read the verses again from PSALM 91.1-6
Reflect on the words spoken here…. and then Pray….to the LORD our God

God of Psalm 91, our God,
We bring our evening worship to you
As we lay ourselves and our families before you
As we acknowledge what you mean to us at this time
In Jesus’ name.
Amen and Amen.

Call to Midday Prayer

How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
I long, yes, I faint with longing
to enter the courts of the Lord.
With my whole being, body and soul,
I will shout joyfully to the living God.
Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young
at a place near your altar,
O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God!
What joy for those who can live in your house,
always singing your praises.

Together we say Amen.

Words from this morning’s Daily Devotions – Psalm 84

Time Out Rhythm

As a Church we set aside a Tuesday each week and provided a place with space – the UPPER ROOM – a place for time-out. However in these times sadly it is not possible to open and run this space….at the moment! July would normally be our sabbatical month however from this rhythm.

But…..our Tuesdays – and every day – can still be an opportunity for time out…..with God…..where we are at home or work

You are invited to pause at some time during this closing week of July and be still with God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

You are encouraged to speak with Him….to listen to Him.…to receive from Him…especially at this time as we seek to hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church in our times.

You are encouraged to visit the PATHWAY of PEACE around the Kirkyard which is open 8am-8pm during July and August and visit the prayer stations as you walk and think and reflect and pray in these days.

Peace Pathway Poster 2020

You are invited to share in the Midday Prayers and Evening Prayers that will be posted online at 12noon and 9pm on various days on the Kirk website and on our social media pages. We are also encouraged to pray with others in our city and across our land at 5pm….focussing on all those affected by the coronavirus.

You are invited to pray with others in our Church family as we journey through this week together…..and to listen for what God is saying to us in these particular days of 2020…For this reason this month’s GATHERING FOR PRAYER on Tuesday evening via Zoom will include a time for us to be still…listen to God….and respond.

You may wish to visit the Kirk for PRIVATE PRAYER when the building is open 2-4pm on a Sunday afternoon.

Daily Devotions for Sunday 26th July, 2020

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from the Living God

Reading : PSALM 23

Meditation : take time to slowly consider this psalm afresh this Sunday morning.
Which words do you hold onto at this time in your life?
What is God reminding you about Himself at this time?

And then pray in response – using the words as you turn to prayer

O Good Shepherd,
We trust in You
Today
Tomorrow
Forever
Guide us
Help us
Restore us
Until we see you face to face
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Midday
Pray the Prayer for the Month as your midday prayer

Loving Father,
We face a wide river and we long to reach the other side;
And we must use the stepping stones offered to us.
You say, ’When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
When you pass through rivers, they will not sweep over you’.
Our trust is in you, O Lord.
In Jesus’ name. Amen

(Isaiah 43.2)

Evening
Reading : read these particular verses again from PSALM 23
Reflect on the words and images and then Pray in response to this God

O LORD, hear our evening prayers we ask
As we thank you for the blessings of this Sunday
As we believe and trust in you
As we pilgrimage on towards tomorrow
And a brighter future with You one day
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
