Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Jesus, Saviour and Lord

Reading : MATTHEW chapter 4 verses 1-4

Meditation : take time and consider this chapter this morning.
Jesus is Tempted. In the desert.
Jesus overcomes the Devil.

What do the words mean to you at this time?
Is there a spiritual battle you are in at this time?
Is there someone you know who needs a word of encouragement?

Take time to Pray in response – including for others known to you in need at this time
Looking again at verse 4

We can but worship you this day O LORD
We can but ask for those in need or trouble this day O LORD
Help us in our trials and temptations
In Jesus’ name, Amen.


Midday

Take time to listen for God to speak with you at this time of day
Ask and seek and knock……and hear
Father God…thank you.

Evening
Reading : read these verses again from MATTHEW chapter 4 verses 1-4
Reflect…. and then Pray as your day closes

God of the desert times and the God of my day,
The God of strong love
The God of might and power
My God, our God,
Hear our evening prayers
As we thank you for your help today
As we journey from today to tomorrow
As we name others we care about before you
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reading : MATTHEW chapter 3 verses 13-17

Meditation : take the time to consider this passage today.
The Baptism of Jesus.
What words or images stay with you?
What is God saying to you this morning?
What is your response to God’s Word today?
Is there a step of discipleship He is asking of you?

Pray in response – to our God , the God who is with us

Pray your own words at the start of this day
Of praise and worship
Of confession and trust
Of need – for yourself and others

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Midday
Pray God’s blessings on those on your personal prayer list
O LORD, have mercy on each and all we ask

Evening
Reading : read the passage again prayerfully at the end of your day
Reflect….. and then pray to God in response

LORD God, the LORD Almighty, hear my prayer this evening.
As I thank you for the blessings of this day
As I call out to you for others
As I lay myself and this world before you
Confessing my failures of this day
In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Sunday Evening Prayer with Others

As we step into the New Year….. with God – together – you may want to revisit today’s Daily Devotions from MATTHEW chapter 3 verses 1-12– as we start to consider TELLING OTHERS THE GOOD NEWS about Jesus through 2023

We PAUSE with the Lord in prayer as the day closes

We REJOICE in the help and blessings He has given this particular Sunday – to us and to others

We ASK for His presence, peace and strength – for ourselves and for others in our church family and our nation and in our world at this time

We YIELD – say Yes – to His Kingdom ways for 2023

As we step into a New Year…….we look upward and Pray – to hear and receive from the Living God

Reading : MATTHEW chapter 3 verses 1-12

Meditation : take time and consider these words this Sunday morning.
The Preaching of John the Baptist.
In the desert. Make a straight path!

What words stay with you?
What encourages and challenges you today?

And then pray in response to the LORD our God
Pray your own prayer of praise and thanks.

O LORD our God,
Good and majestic One,
Great and so worthy of praise.
We bow before You.
We lay our lives before You.
Help us to make way for your kingdom rule in our lives
Even today.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Midday
Pray the Lord’s Prayer as your own midday prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Evening

Dear Lord, help us to remember at this time of
Presents and Puddings,
Cards and Chocolates,
Paper hats and Limericks
With all the Glitz of Christmas celebration
That the King of Glory came Humbly into our world.
