A Call to Thursday Evening Prayer

As part of the Kirk’s rhythm of prayer and devotion we invite people to pause and pray each day.

We offer a Daily Devotions Bible reading each morning and a focus for midday prayer.

At this time in your Thursday you are invited to pause and pray as the day closes.

You may wish to revisit JOHN 1.1 and consider the Logos, the Eternal Word who is God.
You may need to name others before Father God.
You may want to be still with God as you look back on your day.

A Time to Pray with Others

At this time in your Thursday and in these changing times you are invited to pause and pray with others in our city and across the nation…to the LORD our God, our Father God.

You are encouraged to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus

For family and friends

For those anxious about their finances

For NHS and Care Home staff in our city

For our country and our national leaders at this time of decision

Daily Devotions for Thursday 26th November, 2020

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Father God

Reading : JOHN 1 verse 1

Meditation : take time and consider this opening verse this morning.
The Logos, the Eternal Word, is God.
What does this mean for you?
How would you describe your relationship with God?

And then pray in response – as your day starts
including for others seeking to know God at this time

Pray your own words to the LORD our God.

And then together we pray…

O LORD,
Eternal God,
The Living Word,
Have mercy we ask and hear our prayers
For others
For family
For neighbours and colleagues
For ourselves
That they and we might know You
And have your gift of eternal life
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Midday
Pray God’s blessing on those in need of God’s nearness at this time
Father God…hear our prayers and bless them each and all we ask.

Evening
Reading : read this verse again from JOHN 1
Reflect on the words at the end of your day
and Pray in response to this God of ours

O LORD, hear our evening prayers
As we return our thanks to you
For those who have found you
Even today
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Daily Devotions for Thursday 19th November, 2020

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from Father God

Reading : JOHN 1 verses 19-28

Meditation : take time and consider what is said here – as your day starts.
Jesus is the promised Messiah, the Christ.
What did this mean for those who saw and met him at that time?
What does this mean for you now?

And then pray in response as your day starts

Pray your own words to the LORD God
In worship and thanks for what you have read,
In confession and need to be more like Jesus,
And for others known to you at this time who do not know Jesus.

We ask all this in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Midday

Pray God’s blessing on those just starting on their Christian journey of faith
O LORD, hear our prayers and pour out a blessing we ask on each and all

Evening

Reading : read the verses again from JOHN 1
Reflect on these words again at the end of your day
and Pray in response to this God of ours, the God who sent Jesus

O LORD God,
Hear our evening prayers as we thank You for Your call on our lives.
O have mercy we ask
On others
On our Church
On our world
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
