And so the season of Lent starts

Read Luke 1:1-4:
“Since many have undertaken to set down an orderly account of the events that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed on to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, I too decided, after investigating everything carefully from the very first, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the truth concerning the things about which you have been instructed.”

Reflect:
‘… an orderly account… so that you may know the truth…’ Lent is an orderly time. 40 simpler days to work out what matters through taking on prayer, fasting, being generous and giving to others. That is orderliness with room for surprises. 40 days is really 46 days because Sundays are extra, the first day of the week, the resurrection and a new order. For us the order in these days will include the discipline of reading, reflecting, praying and acting together. Christ who is the way, truth and life beckons us along towards the joy of God’s new order in Easter.

Pray:
Most holy God, when we come to you fearing that truth condemns us, show us that truth is one with love in your Word made flesh, our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Act:
Order your life so that you have time each day to read, reflect and pray together.

What words stay with you? What is God saying to you from His Word?

And then Pray in response to what you have read
Taking time to wait before God

Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
I have read these words
And now I pray for you to work them out
as a living reality in my life – even today
as I thank you that you are with me
on my journey through life.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Midday
Take time to listen for God to speak with you at this time of day

Father God…thank you.

LORD God, our great God,
For all of today
I thank You,
Even for those things that have caused me fear and concern.
Help me to rest in Your unfailing love and on Your faithful Word
As I wait for tomorrow.
As I look around at this world
In these days.
Have mercy O Lord!
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
