Daily Devotions for Sunday 1st December, 2019

First Sunday of Advent

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from the Living God

Reading : ISAIAH 7 verse 14

Meditation : take time and consider this verse this Sunday morning.
What does it mean for you today?
What is God teaching you about Himself?

And then pray in response – using the verse as you turn to prayer

O God of Glory
We bow before you
We believe in you
We trust in you
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Midday
Pray God’s blessing on the work of TEARFUND in our world
O LORD, God of mercy, hear our cry and bless this work in our world we ask.

Evening
Reading : read these particular words again from Isaiah 7
Reflect on this one verse and then Pray in response to this God, our God
O LORD, hear our evening prayers we ask
As we thank you for the blessings of this Sunday
As we believe and trust in you
As we pilgrimage on towards tomorrow
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Daily Devotions for DECEMBER 2019

‘The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.’’ Luke 2 verse 20

During 2019 we have been looking at various Bible characters and their relationship with God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit – as well as dipping into Psalms each weekend – pausing in prayer at our times of Midday Devotion for others in our church family, our city and our world at this time of the year.

In December however we journey through ADVENT in the company of Isaiah, Luke, Hebrews and Revelation.

We are all encouraged to listen for God’s voice and make our response as we journey together in our ‘rhythm of devotion’ as 2019 closes.

These Devotions are but one way to feed on God’s Word in the morning, at midday, in the evening… to pray with Him continually through the day and even to share with others the treasures or hurdles you discover.
The Church website and Facebook page (even on a handy mobile) provide a fuller daily devotional page. However it all follows the pattern below which the information provided fits into, based on the Kirk’s origins of the Celtic and Northumbrian traditions which we started as a church family in 2015.

Morning
Reading and Meditation on the content and Prayer of response
Midday
Prayer – mostly for others
Evening
Verse(s) from the morning reading
Reflection and Prayer at the end of the day

A Prayer for the Month of December
O God
Who sent Jesus
From heaven to earth
We believe and trust in You
We seek to please You
O Help us
Guide us
Surprise us
As we seek to see
Thy Kingdom Come afresh
In our families
In our land
In your Church
This month of Advent
This season of Christmas!
In Jesus’ name
Amen

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Thy Kingdom Come #thanks

As a church family at Liberton Kirk we have been revisiting the 11 themes from the Thy Kingdom Come prayer venture earlier in the year. We are pausing to do so together on a Saturday morning.

Today we are invited to pause and pray with THANKS on this last day of the month.

Give thanks with a grateful heart!

Give thanks for the gifts of this past month and week…

Give thanks for those who journey with you in life…

Give thanks to Father God for sending Jesus!

Thy Kingdom Come #Praise

As a church family at Liberton Kirk we have been revisiting the 11 themes from the Thy Kingdom Come prayer venture earlier in the year. We are pausing to do so together on a Saturday morning.

Today we are invited to pause and pray with praise!

Praise my soul the King of Heaven!

Praise Him! Praise Him!

Praise the name of Jesus!

Thy Kingdom Come #toJesus

As a church family at Liberton Kirk we have been revisiting the 11 themes from the Thy Kingdom Come prayer venture earlier in the year. We are pausing to do so on a Saturday morning.

Today we are invited to pray for others known to us to meet with Jesus and to experience the Kingdom of God as a living reality in their lives.

Father God
As we name others before you
Have mercy
Give salvation
According to your amazing grace
In Jesus’ name
Amen.
