Daily Devotions for Sunday 27th August, 2023

Morning
Look Upward and Pray to hear and receive from the Living God

Reading : PSALM 79
A Prayer for the Nation

What is God teaching/reminding you about His ways?
What is your prayer for our nation? For the Church in Scotland?

And then pray in response – using verses 8 and 9 as you turn to prayer
Praying for the Church in Scotland, in our world…..

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Midday
Pray the Lord’s Prayer as your midday prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be Your Name.
Your kingdom come
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our sins
As we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, the power and the glory.
Now and for ever
Amen

Evening
Reading : read these particular verses again from PSALM 79
Reflect on the words and images and then Pray in response to this God

I say to the LORD, “You are my God.”
Hear my cry for help, LORD!
My Sovereign LORD, my strong defender,
you have protected me in battle.

O LORD, hear our evening prayers we ask
As we thank you for the blessings of this Sunday
As we believe and trust in you
As we name others around the world
As we pilgrimage on into this new week
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for our Leaders, our Nation – with others

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people.

1 Timothy 2 verses 1-6

Pause to Pray

On this particular day in July…as the nation journeys forward with new guidelines and the world wrestles with new cases and vaccine supplies.. you are invited to pause and continue to pray with others in our city and across the nation…to the LORD our God, our Father God.

You are encouraged to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus – in our community, in our nation and in our world

For family and friends and neighbours

For the speedy supply of vaccines across the world

For NHS and Care Home staff across the nation

For all our country and national leaders at this time of decision making

O LORD our God
Hear our cry
And have mercy
Show grace
We ask
In Jesus’ name
Amen
